  4.   We've all seen and  dreaded  the road
  5. sign which  proclaims  'Fresh  tar  (or
  6. oil) on Road' and  later  seen the mess
  7. it made on the  underside of  the  car. 
  8. The condition of our roads is  not good
  9. and we'll probably  see  more  of those
  10. wonderful road signs.                         
  11.   How do we  get  that messy  stuff off
  12. the car?  They  have  cleaners  you can
  13. buy at auto parts stores but they don't
  14. really make the job any easier.  What I
  15. suggest is to buy  a small container (1
  16. gallon or less) of kerosene.  Pour some
  17. on a rag, make yourself comfortable and
  18.

  21. start rubbing.  The  kerosene  will
  22. dissolve the oil or tar but  it  is
  23. slow work . . . especially  if  you
  24. have allowed the tar to  lay  there
  25. and harden.  The sooner you  attack
  26. it, the  easier it  comes  off.  As
  27. the tar  is removed, wipe each spot
  28. with a  clean  rag.   Some  residue
  29. will  remain but  the detergent you
  30. use for washing will usually get it
  31. off.  Do the same on the chrome and
  32. then  clean it  with chrome polish. 
  33. You can  use  the  same  polish  on
  34. stainless steel metal.
